The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything 2: The Quest for the Help Seeker is a 2021 American computer-generated comedy adventure musical film and is the sequel to 2008's The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything: A VeggieTales Movie directed by Mike Nawrocki, a screenplay by Phil Vischer and Mike Nawrocki, a musical score by Kurt Heinecke and casting by Chris Wall. The film was produced by Big Idea Entertainment, Universal Pictures, DreamWorks Animation and Eyepatch Animation Studios. It is the third VeggieTales theatrical film to feature characters from the VeggieTales video series following Jonah: A VeggieTales Movie in 2002, The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything: A VeggieTales Movie in 2008, and now it's 2021 sequel.
The film was released in select theaters for only a limited time for a special preview screening back in December of 2020 before having an official four-month worldwide theater release starting on June 4th, 2021 and concluding on September 12th, 2021 just in time for it's streaming, online and home media releases. It received mixed/positive reviews from Critics and mostly positive-negative reviews from audiences claiming that the film had everything that made the original VeggieTales Video Series great and the film itself felt like a proper reboot for the franchise itself, some claimed that the film was only just 90 minutes of god-awful voice acting, animation errors here and there, and it strives from the VeggieTales franchise during the first 13 or so minutes into the film and did something kind of like it's new story but featuring VeggieTales characters. The film itself was a box office success grossing a total of $270,0000 billion dollars during it's opening weekend making this the most succesful VeggieTales release since Jonah.
Production History:[]
Production on the film began in Late 2011/Early 2012 when Phil Vischer announced that he was working with Mike Nawrocki yet again to create an untitled VeggieTales Sequel Film at the time and were reportedly crafting the script for the untitled film with the suppose code name "Pirates Plunder Again!". On June 5th, 2012, rumors spread online that the film was going to be a Pirates Who Don't Do Anything sequel and would be featuring a character named Lucas Leek who was either a villian or one of the good guys who joined Mr. Lunt {Sedgewick}, Pa Grape {George}, and Larry {Elliot} but those rumors were proven to be false when Lucas Leek was confirmed to be a villain by director Mike Nawrocki who also told the leaker that most of his leaks were both confirmed and de-confirmed leaving a wide range of excitement to VeggieTales fans all around the world. On August 15th, 2012, It was also confirmed that Lisa Vischer would be joining the voice cast to voice Junior Asparagus sometime in the film, as well as voicing another "unknown" character at the time.
In the following year on April 15th, 2013, the film was in a sort of Development Limbo with Mike Nawrocki trying to come up with a fairly decent script that all VeggieTales longtime fans would enjoy. He eventually settled on the plot where The Pirates would have to return to Prince Alexandar's time period via a distress signal sent by Willory {Archibald Asparagus} and Princess Eloise about a man named Lucas Leek trying to use The Help Seeker for his own personal game, to destroy dimensions and other universes. The script for this plot eventually went up online on October 28th, 2013. An unfinished teaser trailer for the movie uploaded to YouTube by a user named "VeggieTales+" was uploaded on October 27th, 2013. In the trailer, it showcased Willory, Eloise and Alexander being cornered by what looks like new fork-type enemies with red and blue glowing eyes while their master, Lucas Leek stood over them, laughing like crazy. Lucas then stole the Help Seeker from out of the Prince and Princess's hands with Willory sharing a worried glance at what Lucas is about to accomplish before opening a portal to modern times and much to the three's dismay, he's going to the {orates dimension. In the next shot, we come to Willory, Alexander and Eloise gearing up for the coming battle and going into Modern Times before the screen goes black and the film's logo shows up, ending the trailer.
On January 24th, 2014, Mike Nawrocki announced that pre-production has begun for the film and would wrap up sometime in either 2015, 2016 or 2017 with the former year being the most likely.
