Kitchen Bowling

VeggieTales: Kitchen Bowling was a late 2013 mobile game to promote the upcoming 2014 film The VeggieTales Movie 2014. It basically served as a tie-in to the movie bringing you a couple of good references to past VeggieTales Media as well as having an ending to the game that'll totally set up the events of the first movie in some way, shape or form. The app released on December 8th, 2013 and got updated on July 14th, 2014 {the update in question was just add 2 new characters from the upcoming film and to fix a couple of graphical issues}. The game got updated again for the final time on October 4th, 2014, this time promoting the film and going all out with trailers, exclusive movie clips, characters from the movie that'll cheer you on as you bowl and exclusive popcorn buckets that you could've unlocked and actually redeemed in real time. The app got shut down prior to the sequel's announcement on December 22nd, 2020, however, there is still an archived version of the first update lying around.

"This game isn't really anything special, it's just a VeggieTales Movie promotion bowling game featuring characters from the soon-to-be-released movie, a cutesy 2.5D art style that'll copy the same one as the film and filled with so much promotional material that it'll make you wanna spend just about all of your Copper Tokens! The game will be available for pre-orders on November 6th, 2013 and will be available for digital purchase on December 8th, 2013!".

How to play:

Double tap your screen to move each bowling ball into the correct lane, if it falls into the wrong lane or if it bounces off into another players lane, your automatically out of the match and have to wait your turn when it chooses you again. Remember: You can either get a strike by flinging the balls straight at the pins, double tapping to create a "fire ball" which'll automatically fling into it's targeted pin or just take your time.

Playable Characters:

1. Bob the Tomato {automatically use him as a starter character}
2. Larry the Cucumber {Also a starter character}
3. Mr.Lunt {Have atleast 3 sets of Strikes in your player profile}
4. Mr.Nezzer {Have atleast 6 sets of Strikes in your player profile as well as 8 reward trophies for your efforts}
5. Junior Asparagus {Have atleast 12 sets of Strikes in your player profile, have 25 reward trophies, have atleast played 3 hours of gameplay and unlocked the Super Rare Golden Archiblad player Skin}
6. Archibald Asparaugs {Have atleast 19 sets of Strikes in your player profile and have atleast played over 15 hours of gameplay in the past 2 weeks}
7. Default Veggie {Basically as a oc insert starter character}

Unlockable Characters:

1. Super Rare Golden Archibald {Requirements: Have atleast gained 100% completion inside of the game}
2. Petunia Rhubarb {Complete the "Grow, Rubarb, Grow!" side quests}
3. Madame Blueberry {Play 2 rounds and beat her in every round during the "Blueberry Strike" event back in 2015}
4. Jonah {Have atleast watched a few clips of the Jonah Movie in the Movie Clips features of the game}
5. Pa Grape {Beat him during his "Grape Time!" event}
6. Rosie Grape {Beat her during the "Grape Time!" event}
7. Tom Grape {Beat him during the "Grape Time!" event}
8. Laura Carrot {Beat Junior during a friendly match while playing as either Bob or Larry}
9. Larry the Cucumber/VeggieTales Live! costume {Have atleast attended either the 2013, 2014 and/or 2015 tour of VeggieTales Live! while playing the game inside of the venue}
10. Bob the Tomato/ VeggieTales Live! costume {Same requirement as the Larry costume but have the Bob costumed character look at the bar code of your screen either before, after or during the show}
11. Jimmy Gourd {Beat atleast 20 rounds with a Popcorn Bucket}
12. Jerry Gourd {Same requirement as Jimmy}
13. Roger Leek {Watch the movie and play the game at the same time}

Cut/Unreleased Characters:

1. The French Peas: They were planned to release sometime during the game's run but due to unforeseen reasons, they were ultimately scrapped.
2. Lovey Asparagus: For some reason, her character was scrapped.
3. Mr.Twisty: Mr.Twsity from Jonah: A VeggieTales Movie {2002} was supposed to appear via a leaked image of a supposed "Jonah Quick-Time Event" but was ultimately scrapped due to unforeseen reasons.
4. Dad Carrot: No real reason given/ could've been faked.
5. Bacon Bill: During the run of the third season of VeggieTales In The House, Bacon Bill was deemed to be playable due to his character image seen in the backdrop of the loading screen of the event but due to unforeseen reasons like the other scrapped characters, he was cut.
6. Scooter Carrot: Same reason as Dad Carrot
7. Bruce Onion: Would've been used as a promotional character during the "Beauty and the Beet/Celery Night Fever promotional event}" but as of yet, his purpose is still unknown.

Fun Facts:

• This game likely would've been set after the events of MacLarry and the Stinky Cheese Battle, Merry Larry and the True Light of Christmas and 2012's The League of Incredible Vegetables.
• It uses the same sprite sheets used for Mario Kart 8 during it's character and option selection menus.
• During the new and improved opening theme song, Bob uses the same sprites from the 1993-1998 Theme Song and uses new and improved vocal work.
• During the Junior Asparagus segment, several references and callbacks to the first two episodes are made:
• The Original "God is Bigger" with it's original 1993 instrumental and vocals can be heard in the background if you get a strike against him, but if he gets a strike against you, then the 2008 version of the song would play.
• Junior's hat from "Where's God When I'm S-Scared" and "God Wants Me To Forgive Them!?!" is seen on a poster during Junior's special character selection menu.
• Junior's Toy Truck from "God Wants Me To Forgive Them!?!" could be seen as the many unlockable reward trophies in Junior's Toy Truck from "God Wants Me To Forgive Them!?!" could be seen as the many unlockable reward trophies in his room. room.
• The Water Buffalo Song plays each time you get either a three pointer or a strike.
• The Blue Plastic Wind-Up Lobster makes an appearance during Phase 1 of the "Junior Asparagus Mission Quests".
• Also during Phase 1 of the quests, if you look outside of the window during "Super Strike!" you could see 2 callbacks to other classic VeggieTales media:
• The Van from Jonah: A VeggieTales Movie {2002}
• Bob in the Taxi reusing the same sprite from the original Donut Hockey game.
• The Scallions reappear as the Wisemen during the game's end credits.
• Frankencelery makes an appearance somewhere during the game's end credits.
• One of the Closet Monsters "God is Bigger" segment appears in the game's files but never appears in the game for some odd reason.

Inside References:

Larry mentions when he was stuck down in a Lion's Den and ate some pizza with some Lions during his monologue in the "Character Select menu".

Larry also remarks when he had a shoe on his head during his monologue.
